This is Amida Buddha at Kotoku-in in Kamakura, Japan, begun in 1252 and 11.3 metres tall. The hands make the meditation gesture, index fingers raised to meet the thumbs. The eyes, each a metre wide, are cut almost square to the face so that the gaze falls downward. He was once covered in gold. Traces remain on the cheeks.
